Dedicated with respect and love for the funniest, most creative mind of our times, Miss Rumiko Takahashi. The story opens up several years after the start of the series. Ranma as usual, after a quarrel with Akane, is hit with a series of continuously alternating dousings with hot and cold water by his other classmates during a Chinese Fire Drill, following Akane's instructions. Ranma undergoes a series of rapid water-related quick sex-changes. But all of the onlookers are horrified when Ranma-chan (Ranma's female red-head form) has violent seizures and then becomes almost totally paralyzed, unable to move, but capable of speaking (or screaming as the case may be). The Saotome and Tendou families consult with local medical authorities (Dr. Tofu, etc.) but they determine that any cure, if one exists, will be found in China, near the magical pools which gave Ranma and his father this curse. So, Genma, Akane, Nibiki, Kasumi, and Mr. Tendou all take Ranma over to China to consult with Dr. Foo, a Chinese expert on the pools and their effects who lives on a hill near the pool area. He sadly to say, knows of no known cure, and to top it off, believes that any further sex change may kill Ranma, due to his relative immaturity. Deciding to take Ranma to a conventional medical facility in the area, to see if something can be done about the paralysis, Ranma is strapped onto a wheeled stretcher-bed and placed into an ambulance, where Akane privately (talking with Ranma) gives vent to the feelings of guilt she has about causing the present situation. She says that she'd do anything to cure Ranma of his condition, and gets out of the ambulance in tears, inadvertantly leaving the door unsecured. When the ambulance starts moving, the door swings open, and the wide-eyed, terrified, and screaming Ranma is taken on a roller-coaster ride down the hill, through the countryside, and past the family members who try (and fail) to stop the wildly careening wheeled bed. After a series of Marx Bros. and Three Stooges style near misses, (including one where Akane chops down a tree to try to stop the wildly careening bed, but all it gets Ranma-chan is a mouth full of leaves), the bed with Ranma-chan strapped to it finally splashes to a stop in one of the magical pools... Everyone (who have been running as quickly as possible after the bed) watches in astonishment as bubbles burst out from under the surface of the pool, and then... a choking, sputtering, cursing figure pops up to the surface, and swims to them under her own power. They are all extremely happy to note that Ranma is no longer paralyzed! Nibiki: Well, it could have been worse. At least it's the same pool they pointed out earlier. Hmm, let's see. I wonder what I should charge as the going rate for hot water this time? (Dr. Foo looks horrified at Nibiki's first statement, and turns to the guide). Dr. Foo: It's the same pool that he fell into once before? Guide: Yes, that's true. I saw it happen with my own eyes. (Dr. Foo leans over and whispers something to the guide, and it's the guide's turn to look horrified. They look over toward Ranma and share the same thought). Guide & Dr. Foo: This is NOT good!!! (Meanwhile, Nibiki has walked over to Ranma with a kettle of hot water and is preparing to bargain with her for it, when Akane swiftly strides up and snatches the kettle from her sister). Akane: That's enough of that! Hasn't Ranma had enough problems lately? (Akane hands the kettle to Ranma, who braces for the heat and then starts to pour the contents of the kettle over herself. When she finishes, she looks at Akane and Nibiki. They are in shock. Ranma looks at the rest of the group, who all have the same expression). Ranma: What's wrong with everyone? Akane: Ranma, l-look at y-yourself. Ranma: Huh? (Ranma does so and realizes that his form is still most definitely female). YAAHHH!!!! (Ranma rapidly tries 6 more kettles of boiling hot water, but there is no change in his (errr, her) form. He sinks to is knees as Akane looks on helplessly. Coming out of his shock, Genma goes over to the guide and Dr. Foo demanding to know the meaning of this). Genma: What...what the HELL is going on here!? Why didn't the hot water transform my son back to his original form? Dr. Foo: This is very unfortunate. I've heard of cases like this, but in all my years of studying these pools, I've never encountered an occurence like this. As you are aware, the curse that haunts these pools has the power to transform those who are immersed in the water into the form of whatever may have drowned in the pool during the past. I thought it was just a rumor, however, it's now proven true that should one fall into the same pool a second time, the effect of the pool becomes permanent. In short, Mr. Saotome, you had better get used to thinking of your son as your daughter, from now on. (Ranma has approached them during these statements). Ranma: Father... (Genma turns and looks at her. He is speechless). FATHER!!! (Ranma runs over to her father and leaning against his chest, and starts crying her heart out. After a moment's hesitation, Genma raises one hand and strokes Ranma's hair). Genma: It's alright, it's alright. Your gender isn't important to me. What is important is that you're my child, and you're well again. Akane: (to Guide and Dr. Foo) You can't mean this is how Ranma's going to be for the rest of his life! There must be something we can do, some way to change this! Dr. Foo: There is nothing that can be done. By falling into the same pool for a second time, the curse has been rendered irreversible. Ranma Saotome will wear a female form for the remainder of his life. For all intents and purposes, it will be as if he had been born a female. (Akane turns away and slowly walks over to where Genma and Ranma are standing). Akane: (Sincerely) Ranma-kun, I'm so sorry for you. (Ranma wipes her tear-stained face and tries to smile). Ranma: Well, perhaps one good thing has come out of this, after all. Akane: (surprised) What's that? Ranma: You never did want to marry me. It looks like you have a way out, after all. There certainly won't be any marriage between us now. (Akane's expression changes from surprised to hurt, and then to anger. Ranma has barely finished speaking when Akane draws back her right hand and then sweeps it forward to connect with a resounding SLAP!!. Ranma catches the blow full in her face and is flung back against Genma, and then slides to the ground. Holding her cheek, she looks up at Akane in astonishment). Akane: How... how could you say such a thing now? (Akane's voice rises in anguish on the last word, and she runs off. The view shifts as she runs, and tears can be seen streaming from the corners of her eyes). Ranma: What did I do? (Kasumi walks up in time to hear Ranma's question, and answers it) Kasumi: Perhaps you made an unwarranted assumption, Ranma. (Ranma looks at Kasumi, then turns to look after Akane). (Scene change--- It's now early evening of the same day. Most of the group is assembled indoors for dinner. Kasumi and Nibiki are in the kitchen. Conspicuous by their absence are Ranma and Akane.) Kasumi: Supper's almost ready. (to Nibiki) Have you seen Ranma and Akane? Nibiki: I haven't seen Ranma since, well, you know. Akane went out a little while ago. She said she wasn't hungry. Kasumi: Poor Ranma-kun. Nibiki: Well, we won't be calling her that anymore. It should simplify things at home, though. No more wondering which Ranma is in the bath. Kasumi: Little sister, you should show more compassion. Nibiki: Gee, big sister, do you have any idea what this is going to cost me? Ranma's transformations were one of my best sources of income. Believe me, I couldn't be sorrier that this happened. (Kasumi gives Nabiki a surprised look.) (The scene changes once again. It focuses on Ranma, who is sitting moodily by the pools, knees drawn up and elbows resting on them, chin in hands. The sun is setting and a slight breeze stirs her bangs and rustles a letter lying on the ground nearby. Ranma raises one hand to her face and winces as she gingerly touches a large bruise left by Akane's slap. At this point Akane comes walking up to face Ranma). Akane: Good evening. May I join you? (Ranma says nothing, merely shrugging her shoulders. Akane takes this as an affirmative and sits next to Ranma). Akane: (hesitates, then) Ranma, is it a good idea to sit so close to these pools? Ranma: It doesn't make any difference now, at least to me. Dr. Foo told me I couldn't be affected any further by any of them. What could happen that could be worse anyway? (pauses) You know, I was thinking. Akane: What were you thinking about? Ranma: Just about how much simpler everything would be if I were to just go back into one of those pools and not come back out again. Akane: (horrified at the thought of Ranma committing suicide) Ranma, don't say such a thing! Ranma: (with a wry smile) Don't worry, I wasn't serious. Akane: (Looking for a way to change the subject, she sees the letter which Ranma has been reading) What's that? Ranma: Hmmm? Oh, that. It came just before I got sick. It's a wedding invitation from my cousin. We used to be really close, and he wanted me to be the best man at his wedding. Of course, I'll have to decline the honor. He's supposed to be a real womanizer. What would he make of me if he could see me now, I wonder. Akane: What kind of girl is he marrying? Ranma: I don't know much about her, but she must be quite exotic. Can you believe that she has green hair and horns? (pause, then softly) Exotic or not, I'll bet she's not half as nice as you are, though. Akane: (blushes slightly) Why, Ranma... Ranma: (ruefully) It's funny, isn't it? All this time I could never bring myself to tell you that, and now that it really isn't important anymore, it seems like it's so easy to say. I'm sorry about what I said earlier, I only meant to say that you wouldn't be forced into a marriage against your will. Believe me, I wasn't trying to hurt your feelings. Akane: That was all I could think of when you said it. I'm sorry, Ranma, I should have known better. (Akane reaches out and gently touches the bruise on Ranma's cheek and Ranma winces again). It looks like I hurt more than your feelings. (pause) Can you forgive me? Ranma: Of course. (pause) Look, Akane, I know boys haven't made a very good impression on you, what with me, Kunou, and all that nonsense you had to put up with at school. Boys aren't all bad. I hope eventually you'll find one you can really care about. Akane: (softly) I've already found someone I really care about. Ranma: You have? Have you known him for very long? Akane: For some time, now. Ranma: I had no idea! Is it someone I know? Akane: You know him quite well. Ranma: I know...? It's not that idiot Kunou, is it?! Akane: No. Ranma: Not that swine, Ryogou? Akane: No. (blushing as she remembers all the nights she spent cuddling the cute little black transforming pig). Ranma: (honestly puzzled) Then who...? (Akane hesitates, then leans over and gives Ranma a quick kiss on the cheek). Ranma: ! Akane: It's you, you idiot. It has been for a long time, now. Ranma: (sputtering) Akane, you... you can't be serious. (louder) Have you lost your mind? Akane: Ranma... Ranma: (continuing) You said it yourself, it was bad enough when I was a guy only part of the time. And you were right. But things are impossible now. How could you possibly...? Akane: I know the kind of person you are inside. THAT'S the person I care about. Ranma: (this is too much for her) No... no, damnit! (Ranma jumps to her feet and runs a short distance, then turns to face Akane, who has risen to her feet. Ranma's chest is heaving, not from the short run, but from the conflicting emotions coursing through her). Akane: Ranma!! Ranma: It's just no good, Akane. As much as I love you, it's impossible! You've just got to find someone else!! Akane: But Ranma... Ranma: Leave me alone, Akane! (Ranma turns and runs off, leaving Akane standing alone. As she runs, Ranma thinks to herself) Ranma: I love you, Akane, but it's hopeless. I wish with all my heart that you find someone you can share your life with. (Akane, broken hearted, hears Ranma's last words over and over again). Ranma: (voice over) Leave me alone, Akane! Akane: But I love YOU, Ranma. There must be some way for us to be together. (Akane thinks very hard for several moments, then the seed of an idea is planted and takes root). Akane: Perhaps... yes, perhaps there is a way. (Scene--the accomodations where everyone is staying, about dawn. Akane pads softly into the room where Dr. Foo and the guide to the pools are sleeping. She rousts the expert from bed, and practically drags him out of the building. After they leave, the guide opens his eyes and looks out a window to see where they're going). Guide: Now what would Miss Akane want at this... Oh, dear! I hope I'm not too late. (He rushes off to wake the others as the scene shifts to Akane and her reluctant accomplice as they reach the area of the pools). Akane: I only want one thing from you, and then you can do whatever you want! Dr. Foo: Miss, I can't tell you something like that. Isn't what happened to your friend enough? You should just forget your idea and the very fact that these pools exist at all. Akane: Forget! How could I forget what these pools did to the man I love! No! Never!!! (Meanwhile the Guide is trying to rouse a sleepy Ranma). Guide: Wake up, Miss Ranma, wake up! Ranma: (sleepily) Wha...? Oh, it's you. (Yawns) What are you doing here so early? Guide: It's Miss Akane, she's gone to the pools and... Ranma: (wide awake now) The pools? Why would she... (remembering her own jest about drowning in the pools to end her misery) OH, NO!!! (Ranma frantically rushes out of the building as the Guide rouses the others. Ranma is well ahead of the pack as the others rush outside). (Back by the pools, Akane is losing patience. She has one hand twisting Dr. Foo's shirt collar and is brandishing a clenched fist in front of his nose). Akane: No more stalling! Is this the right pool, or isn't it?! Dr. Foo: (defeated) Yes, miss, this is the one you've been seeking. Akane: Good! (relaxes her grip, and sets Dr. Foo back on the ground) I'm sorry I treated you like that, but I HAD to know. Ranma: (some way off) Akane!! Dr. Foo: Miss, I beg you to reconsider this. What you intend to do is ... irrational. Akane: Perhaps it is. Have you ever been in love? Dr. Foo: Well, yes. But what does that... Akane: Then you should understand why I'm doing this. (Ranma reaches the scene and come to halt nearby, puffing. After a moment, she speaks) Ranma: Akane, what are you doing here? Akane: Ranma, dear, I've found a way for us to be together. Don't worry, you'll understand soon. (The others arrive as Ranma tries once more to stop Akane). Ranma: Akane, wait! Please! (Akane smiles at Ranma, and then dives headfirst into the pool pointed out by Dr. Foo). Ranma: What's she up to?! That pool! It's right next to the one I fell into! (to Dr. Foo and Guide) DAMNIT, WHAT DROWNED IN THAT POOL?!!!?? (There is a disturbance in the pool as the magical effect begins to work on Akane....) Guide: It was in this pool that a young man drowned, 1500 years ago. Ranma: Young man? (Akane surfaces. Or is it? The figure emerging from the pool is a good deal taller than the one who dove in, and is definitely masculine in build and appearance). Akane: (checking the contours of her chest) That was the one! (to Ranma) You see, dear, there WAS a way. Wait till I dry off, then just once more, and there won't be anything to keep us apart. Ranma: Akane...KUN? Ranma passes out at the realization of what Akane has done, and awakens to the sight of Akane-kun bending over her in concern, his face only inches away. Music: [Huey Lewis and the News: You Mean the World to Me] Akane-kun slowly closes the distance, kisses Ranma on the lips, and asks her to marry him. Ranma tearfully accepts. Kasumi: Sister, wait! (Kasumi and Nabiki walk up to the transformed Akane). Nibiki: Sis, are you really certain you want to do this? Once more, and it's for keeps. Kasumi: You must love Ranma very much to do this. Akane: I do. I was so blind not to realize it before now. Nibiki: So you're really going through with it, huh? Akane: Yes. (Pauses and looks over to where her and Ranma's fathers are standing. She smiles at them). Besides, you know how badly father's always wanted to have a son. Kasumi: That's true. (Kasumi and Nibiki embrace the transformed Akane, and go over to stand by Ranma. Akane dives once more into the pool). Kasumi: I hope the two of you will be very happy, Ranma-chan. Ranma: I-I had no idea she'd do this. Everyone is present as Akane dives into the same pool a second time, changing into Akane-kun permanently, with Ranma helping him out of the pool. Ranma: (whispering to Akane) Who's the pervert now, Akane? Akane: (speechless, and ashamed) Ranma: (laughing as she kisses him) ...But you're MY pervert! Akane looks into the now tightly-fitting drawers he was wearing as a girl, looks at Ranma and grins as he says: Akane: (laughing) Remember when I saw you in the bath? (Ranma nods). I'm built better than you ever were, Ranma! Ranma: (blushing) We'll have to wait for our honeymoon for you to prove that, dear! Kasumi: What a fine looking little brother! (blushing as she realizes a possible interpretation of what she's just said). Nibiki: It looks like they may have to learn to make a few changes from the way they've done things in the past. Ranma and Akane: (together) Don't say the word CHANGE! (Then Ranma and Akane attempt to embrace each other, but find the going somewhat awkward, since they are operating off of suddenly obsolete reflexes. Kasumi and Nibiki watch for a moment, look at each other, then shake their heads and go over to the odd couple). Nibiki: (coaching) Okay, Akane, put your arms around... quit trying for the neck! Just do as I say and put your arms around Ranma's waist. Kasumi: (also coaching) Now then, Ranma, you put your arms around Akane's neck. Good! (Ranma and Akane, having achieved the correct fit, are paying no attention to anyone but each other. Kasumi and Nabiki step back a few paces as the happy couple kiss each other). Nibiki: I sure hope they catch on to the rest by themselves! (After watching a moment, Nibiki starts to sniffle. Kasumi, wiping her own eyes, comments on it). Kasumi: Why, little sister, I never realized you were such a romantic. Nabiki: (who hasn't really heard) What are we going to do for excitement? It's going to be so boring!! (sniff, sniff) WAAHHH!!! (The ever patient Kasumi shakes her head and rolls her eyes in disbelief at this. Ranma and Akane come up for air, completely unaware of that particular exchange and gaze fondly at each other). Ranma: Akane, what you did... Akane: ...was because I love you, Ranma-chan. I would have done anything to keep us together. Ranma: ...for always. I love you, too, Akane-kun. They travel to Tomobiki-cho instead of home, to attend Ranma's cousin's wedding. When Akane-kun meets Ataru and Lum (who mistake him for Ranma) they are informed that Ataru's favorite cousin isn't a guy any more. After the UY regulars are made aware of the couple's recent history and current situation, Ranma and Akane are asked if they would like to become part of the multi-couple wedding procession, and they quickly agree to get married then as well. It is the evening before the Wedding Ceremony. Akane and Ranma are alone together, talking in Ranma's room in the Hotel near the Mendo Chapel (Cathedral, actually): Akane: Ranma, are you absolutely sure we should go through with this? Ranma: Akane, are you doubting our love now? Akane: No. (He sighs) I don't know Ranma, I'm just not sure of how I feel about anything anymore. It's all so confusing...so different from what I expected... Ranma: (Taking Akane in her arms): Of course, dear. I know how you feel. It was awfully confusing and frightening for me at first as well, but I got used to enjoying being a girl. At least you're not constantly changing sexes the way I did for so long. Akane: Ranma-chan, I'm so sorry you had to go through that, and that I was so mean to you then. I didn't know what you were going through, it was so...perverted to me then. Ranma: I think I know a way we can prove our devotion... (sits down on her bed) Come here, love. Akane: (nearly mesmerized) Ranma... no... it wouldn't be fair! Not to you, or the family. We shouldn't be alone like this, not right now, not doing what we're thinking of doing... Ranma: (letting her hair down) But isn't it the most natural thing in the world, dear? Akane: Of course. (blushing) But I always promised myself to save myself for my husband...I mean my wife, I guess. Ranma: (Standing up) Well then, just come here and hold me, love. Feel what I feel. We DO belong together, believe me. We do. Akane: (Holding Ranma close in his arms, all awkwardness gone) We do fit together nicely, don't we? Ranma: Oh, yes my love. The most natural feeling in the world. (an idea occurs to her, and Ranma starts laughing). Akane: What's so funny? Ranma: After your determined conviction at the pools that we belonged together forever, you're suffering from pre-wedding jitters, dear. Isn't that funny? Akane: (slightly smouldering) No, it isn't, Ranma! If you're going to make fun of me... (Ranma shifts her hold on Akane slightly, pulling him even closer to her, and kisses him without stopping for a good long time). Ranma: No, love, I didn't mean to make fun of you. I'm just as nervous, but I guess it shows in a different way. (Just then, there is a knock at the door to the room. Gently disengaging their grip on each other, Ranma and Akane walk toward the doorway hand in hand. As they open the door, they see two unfamiliar figures dressed in red, also holding hands) Akane: Yes, what do you want? Megane: I'm Megane, and this is my wife, the Lady Benten. We're friends of Ranma's cousin and his fiance. We noticed some confusion in the two of you earlier, and we just wanted to make sure everything was alright between you. Benten: Ataru and Lum explained your history to us, and we were touched by the devotion you showed for each other. Why do you doubt your love for each other now? Akane: I don't know. But how can we be sure? Megane: We have just the thing. My Lady and I have the ability to show couples their fate lines. To prove they belong together. Would you like for us to show you now? Ranma: Oh, yes! Please? Akane: Alright. Come on in, please. Benten: (smiling as she and Megane walk toward the center of the room): If you two kids will just go to opposite corners of the room, we'll get this thing going. (to Megane): My Lord? Megane: Anytime you're ready, Benten-chan. (Akane and Ranma walk to opposite corners of the room and wait). Akane and Ranma: Okay, we're ready! (Megane and Benten stare at each other intensely, until a heart-shaped aura forms about them. They then start slowly lifting upwards off the floor. As they levitate, an entwined crimson strand goes in each direction toward the couple in opposite corners. Then, as Megane and Benten move out of the way, the crimson threads join and become one, pulling the pair together into the center of the room, where they kiss each other with all the passion and devotion they can muster). (Benten and Megane land gently on the floor, comparing notes about something odd they noticed about the young lovers.) Benten: Did you notice that, my love? Megane: (referring to the passion generated by the young couple in the center of the room): Hard to miss that much heat being generated. Benten: (slapping him gently (?) on the back) No, you dummy. Didn't you notice the crimson strand? Megane: What about it? Benten: We didn't connect just one pair of lovers. We were seeing two sets of fates, joined as one. These two will bear watching in the future... [See the upcoming series, RANMA X 2]. Megane: Is that what the double-stranded thread was. I thought I was seeing things. Well, It's been a busy night. We'd better get back to our own room... Benten: I know what's on your mind, love. (She kisses him lightly on the lips) And I love you for it. You foolish, impetuous mortal! Megane: Mortal!? I thought your father took care of that problem? I'll show you mortal! Best two out of three falls back in our bedroom? Benten: (As she snuggles into his arms) You're on! (They slowly walk out of the room, closing the door behind them). (Ranma and Akane finally start breathing again with a pair of contented sighs, lost in each other's eyes as the scene fades out). Akane & Ranma: (together) I LOVE YOU!!! (Scene change to): The next day, during the wedding, as Genma is proudly escorting his daughter down the aisle to her husband-to-be, a discussion is going on in one of the pews: Mako: (Dressed as Lum's flower girl, coming down the aisle just in front of Lum and her father) Just think, Ten, soon it'll be our turn to do this! You'll be waiting for me eagerly at the altar and... Ten: (Acting as Ataru's ringbearer, walking on the other side of the aisle, looks at her and yells) Will you SHUT UP!!! (As he does this, he accidentally spits out a fire ball directly at Mako. She deftly deflects it with a frying pan she pulls out of nowhere): Mako: (smiling sweetly) Your future cousin-in-law showed me how to do that! Ten: (grumbling) Another thing I'll never forgive you for, Ataru! Sitting in one of the front row pews, Ten's mother gives him a look that would freeze water, gives Mako a quick smile, and whips out a pistol which shoots a jet of water at the deflected ball of flame before it can burn anything. There is much more water than flame, however, and the remainder of the water jet arcs up, over, and down, landing directly on Genma, who is immediately tranformed into his Giant Panda form. He nonchalantly adjusts the placement of his glasses, ignoring the astonished looks of the congregation, and growls as if to say "What an obnoxious bunch of weirdos", he pats Ranma-chan's arm and continues to escort his beautifully dressed daughter down the aisle to her beloved waiting groom. At the reception, Ranma and Akane unwrap a package which contains a book written by Dr. Foo entitled: "Pools of Longing: The Secret History of Two Pools". [See Ranma 1/2: The Prequel]. Another package has a two book set: The Male/Female Body: A User's Guide. Ranma and Akane decide to examine their gifts later, as they and their family join in the festivities at the Mendo Reception Hall. THE END (for now) P.S. Some of the more alert of you may have noticed a few things have changed (or will be changing) for the Urusei Yatsura regulars during the time period this script covers). These changes will be explained in our Final Urusei Yatsura Script, which has been in production now for nearly two months, and at 80+ pages of text, is between 35% to 50% complete, with no slowdown in sight. We hope to submit the Final UY Script directly to Kitty Films and Rumiko Takahashi, in the hopes that some (if not all of it) may be used at some future date. This Ranma 1/2 script is a result of a scene envisioned during Lum and her friends weddings. Parts of it will be worked into the final script, but we thought this might make a nice teaser of a possible future for the characters we love. Keep dreaming, folks, and if you have a nice one, write it down and share it! This may be used on Electronic Bulletin Boards and put into non-profit organization or private fanzines, as long as no changes are made, and the source is acknowledged. (And two copies of the publication sent to the address at the end of the file would be nice!) Comments, Catcalls (everything short of letterbombs) would be appreciated.
