Ranko sat on the shrine steps resting.

(I can't beleive my leg is in this bad a shape.) (I can't even get up to the shrine without resting part way up.) (And my arm is just as bad.) (I tried to do the Chestnut fist this morning.) (It took me a half an hour to work the cramps out of my arm.)

Ranko took a deap breath, and let out a sigh.

(Katsuhito's right.) (Its going to take some time to get back in shape.)

Just then the sun peaked over the ridge across from Ranko. As she watched the sun rise, she realized how many times she'd seen this and never just watched.

(Why didn't I see how beautiful this was before?)

After the sun finished rising she made her way slowly down the stairs.

Entering the house she was met by an excited Nobuyuki.

"Ranko you've got to come see this, your all over the news."

"Me?" "Why would I be on the news?"

Following him in she sat before the TV. He switched to a new channel with a news caster on the screen.

"----And that's the weather for to day." "Lady's and gentelmen, in a tragic follow up story to the Mt. Horab explosion." "The Tokyo police have made an anouncement in a press confrence this morrning." "We'll now play a tape of that anouncement."

The picture changed to a meeting room. A man in a bisness suite behind a podium.

"Good morrning ladies and gentelmen." "I am Captan Takahashi of the Tokyo Police Department." "It is my sad duty to inform you of the deaths of three young men from the Tokyo subburb of Nerma." "Their names are Ranma Saltome, Ryoga Habiki, and Mu-su." "It has been concluded the they were on Mt. Horab when it exploded." "The details are in the information packets we are handing out." "The Diet has issued death certificates, and the familys have been notified." "on the screen behind me you will see pictures of the young men."

Ranko didn't hear any more. As her face was burried in Nobuyuki's Chest. Sob's racking her body.

Nobuyuki simply held her, and let her cry her self out. Some time later, Ranko sat back trying to wipe the tears from her eyes. Nobuyuki handed her a tissue, and after tear wiping and nose blowing, Ranko sat back in her seat.

"Thank you Nobuyuki." "I-I needed a good cry right then." "It's funny you know, a few short months ago I would never have done that." "I would have kept it all hidden inside."

"Tell me Ranko, did keeping it bottled up inside do any good?"

Ranko looked down at her lap as if ashamed. Speaking softly she replied.

"No." "It only made me feel worse."

It was silent in the room for a time, then Ranko said.

"What am I going to do now?" "I have no family name, I-I'm ronin."

Nobuyuki reached over, giving her hand a squeeze for comfort.

"You don't have to be, you could be Masaki." "The choise is yours to make."

Again the room was silent as Ranko thought. Then replied softly.

"Yes." "I'd like that very much."

Katsuhito who had been listening from the doorway announced himself by clearing his throat. Ranko arose turning to him, and bowing formaly declaired.

"Katsuhito Masaki, head of clan Masaki." "I have done as you instructed, and thought long on your offer." "Genma Saltome has shown himself to be a man of little or no honor." "I have found that vow's of honor made by one who has no honor have no meaning." "So I renounce the Saltome name, and humbly ask you accept me into Clan Masaki."

Ranko held her bow, waiting for Katsuhito's reply. Katsuhito smiled, he'd been waiting for this for two months, and now it was here before him. Bowing deeply in return. He anounced.

"I Katsuhito Masaki head of clan Masaki, do hear your request."

"It is with great joy that I greet you this day not as a guest but as family." "Welcome Ranko Masaki." "This day each year shall be the day we cellibrate your new birth as Masaki."

Both arose from thier bows, tears of joy in their eyes. Ranko stepped forward embracing Katsuhito.

"Thank you." "Thank you for everything."

There was a bright flash of light. Katsuhito and Ranko turned to look at Nobuyuki, who just smiled at them. Ranko got a smirk on her face.

Leaping forward she grabed his camera and tossed it to Katsuhito, then she engulfed Nobuyuki in a bone crushing hug. His eyes bugged out as she stood up on her toes and kissed his cheek, just as Katsuhito took the picture.

"Thank you Nobuyuki."

Ranko released a flusterd Nobuyuki, and stepped back. She and Katsuhito began to laugh, and where soon joined by Nobuyuki. As their laughter died down, Nobuyuki suggested they all go into town to celibrate. Ranko got a sad look on her face, looking down at the floor. Nobuyuki and Katsuhito were quick to pick up on her mood change. Katsuhito stepping forward placeing his hand on her shoulder, asked.

"Ranko, whats wrong?"

Ranko's face turned red in emmbaressment. Stammering she finely blurted out.

"It's, It'sjustthatIdon'thaveanythingnicetowear."

Both men stared at her while trying to decipher what she had said.

Then suddenly Katsuhito got a smile on his face.

"Well in that case Ranko." "Maybe you should open your birthday gift."

"Gift?"

"Why yes, gift." "Now lets see where did I put that?"

Acting like he was thinking but couldn't remember Katsuhito rubbed his chin while talking to himself.

"No, I didn't put it there." "Was it, no not there ether."

To say that Ranko was excited would be an under statement. She was practicly jumping up and down in place. After Katsuhito felt he had teased her enough he stated.

"Ah yes, now I remember."

Walking over to the closet under the stairs, he entered. {1}

He could be heard rummageing around moving things. Then stepping out with a large gift wrapped box in his hands, he handed it to her.

"Happy Birthday Ranko."

Ranko just stood there holding the box in both hands looking at it.

Katsuhito guided her by her arm to the sofa and helped her to sit down.

She sat there still looking at the gift. Then a tear hit the paper, followed by others.

"Sniff, I don't know whats wrong with me." "I feel so happy right now, but I can't stop crying."

Katsuhito just smiled. Then placeing his hand on top of hers to reasure her said.

"There's nothing wrong with you Little One." "Some times when people get very happy they cry tears of joy."

Nobuyuki handed her a tissue, and both men sat quietly until she was done. Pulling herself together, Ranko smiled. Then lifting the gift wraped package said.

"I guess it's time to open this."

Without another word she began ripping the paper off. Then removing the lid to the box she gasped. Slowly reaching inside she lifted out a beautiful emerald green silk komono, richly hand embroiderd with a large ancient tree on the back. She stood letting the box slide off her lap to the floor and held the komono up against herself.

"Its beautiful!" "I-I've never had anything so nice in my entire life."

Holding it out to look at again. She looked closely at the embroiderd tree. Looking at Katsuhito she stated.

"I think I've seen this tree before." "It was in the picture albums you showed me."

"Yes, that is Fonaho." "The sacred tree of Masaki Shrine."

Looking back at the embroiderd picture, Ranko rememberd Katsuhito's tale of how he came to earth. How after the defeat of Ryoko, he had spent days laboring to save her.

(How sad.) She thought.

(To be able to roam the stars, and now unable to move.) (Planted in one place for 700 years.) (Her only companion, her soul bonded Yosho.)

Ranko looked at Katsuhito. New understanding in her hart.

(He stayed for her!) (He told me that the stars call to him, his father wanted him to return to rule.) (But he couldn't bear to leave her here, alone.)

"Katsuhito." "Tomorrow, if it's not to much trouble." "Could you take me to meet Fonaho?"

Katsuhito looked Ranko in the eyes. So much meaning in that request.

She'd asked to meet Fonaho, not to see Fonaho as most would ask.

(Yes, I can see it in her eyes.) (She understands.)

A smile came to Kasuhito's face as he answerd.

"I would be honored to introduce you to Fonaho."

Genma awoke to a pounding hangover. Staggering to his feet, he shuffled down to the main room in the Tendo home. Hopeing for some strong tea, and asprins from Kasumi. Nealing at his usual spot he realized that something had changed in the room. Trying to focus his bloodshot eyes he saw the table was gone, replaced by a white sheet.

(Strange!) (If I didn't know better, I'd say someone was preparing to commit seppuku.)

SHINK! The sound of steal being drawn was very distinctive.

The feel of razor sharp cold steal pressed against his neck, just over the main artory that fed blood to the brain.

"Hello, Husband."

The coldness in that voice freezing him on the spot.

(Gona Die. Gona Die. Gona Die.)

Was all that ran through his small brain. Then he saw Kasumi, Nabiki, and Akane enter the room. The look of contempt on thier faces told him he would get no help from them. Then Nodoka spoke in a voice that sent chills down his spine.

"Genma, you will not speak." "Anything you say would just be a lie."

"Before you are the implements for seppuku." "Also a document you wrote up signed and tricked our five year old son into putting his hand print on."

Genma opened his mouth to protest, and the pressure increased on the blade, letting a trickle of blood flow down his neck.

"Next to it is a pen, several documents my lawyer prepaired, and our divorce papers." "You will ether commit seppuku and redeem your self, or sign the documents." "Ether way I will be rid of you." "At least my son redeemed himself." "He died tring to regain his lost manhood." "A manhood lost because of your stuppidity!" "DIE OR SIGN, NOW!"

Genma wasted no time thinking. He took the cowards way out. Picking up the pen and papers, he signed his name in each marked spot.

Nabiki retreived the papers, read them over and handed them to Kasumi, who signed as witness. Nabiki then left the room with the papers and A car could be heard pulling away outside. Nabiki returned and nodded at Nodoka. Who smiled at Genma while stepping back.

"Oh, by the way Genma while trying to locate you I hired a private investigator." "He turned up quite a few crimes commited by you on your so called training trip." "Many with outstanding warrants for your arrest." "Nabiki has taken the liberty of informing the police involved that you have been residing here." "It seems there is a rewared offerred as well, which should help repay the Tendo's for what you have cost them." "The Tendo home will no longer be a safe haven for you." "I suggest you pack and leave now."

Genma wasted no time running up the stairs, stuffing his things into his pack and running back down. At the bottom of the stairs Nabiki stood waiting with that predator smile of her's. In her hand a large envelope.

"These Genma are copies of the documents that you signed." "I'm sure you'll enjoy reading them." Oh, and the origanls have already been filed at the Diet." "You, are so screwed."

Genma just grabbed the papers and stuffed them in his pack. Freedom first, he'd deal with these later. As he stepped out the door, he saw no less the ten officers waiting. Making a leap for the fence, he was hit in mid flite by at least 6 tazers. Genma landed face first, and lay there twitching. When the officers were shure he wasn't getting up. He was manicled hand and foot, thrown in the back of a van and hauled off to jail.

{1} No, Washu's lab entrance isn't there anymore. She closed it before she left with Tenchi.
